My Yesshows

(work in progress)

Here are the shows I’ve actually attended, with a few thoughts thrown in…

90125 Tour

April 30, 1984: The Spectrum, Philadelphia, PA
Not just my first Yes concert, but my first show ever. I had become a fan of Yes in 1981, after the breakup following the Drama tour. I never expected to be able to see them live. Then the resurrection happened, and I was so excited to be able to see them. When they played “Yours is no Disgrace” I was blown away. A great show, with a good mix of old and new.

September 10, 1984: The Spectrum, Philadelphia, PA
On the second leg of the tour, they dropped “Yours is no Disgrace” in favor of “Our Song.” While I like the latter, “Disgrace” has always been one of my favorite Yes tracks so I was bummed to not hear it. But over-all, another wonderful show.

Big Generator Tour

November 29, 1987: The Spectrum, Philadelphia, PA
They opened with “Almost Like Love” which was a pleasant surprise. The set was mainly drawn from 90125 and Big Generator, but they brought “Heart of the Sunrise” back to the set which was a major thrill. The crowd was so blown away by “Sunrise” that the applause prevented the band from continuing. Tony tried to start into “Changes” but stopped. Then all five band members gathered at the keyboard riser, sat down, and took it all in. They we’re having a blast enjoying the moment. Nothing like a Philly Yes crowd!

November 30, 1987: The Spectrum, Philadelphia, PA
The same set as the previous night, sans the 5 minute standing ovation after “Heart of the Sunrise.” Still a wonderful night, with a breath-taking performance of “And You and I.”

February 7, 1988: The Spectrum, Philadelphia, PA
By the second leg, “Almost Like Love” was dropped and “Rhythm of Love” was moved to the opener. Aside from that, it was the same set as the first leg. Always nice to hear any lineup that includes Chris playing “Heart of the Sunrise.”
